Fresh out of law school, Erin Gordon was thrilled to launch her career at a major California firm. But within weeks, this 24-year-old found herself the target of blatant workplace bullying and humiliating harassment. With no support from firm administration or her seasoned colleagues, Gordon sought guidance from prominent employment attorneys. They informed her that despite the strength of her case, she could pursue justice or her career – but not both. Frustrated and furious, Gordon left the legal profession but never shook the lingering shame and despair that altered her life forever.
Now longtime journalist Gordon shares the trove of smoking-gun memos, emails and handwritten notes she preserved from that difficult time, as well as fresh interviews with former colleagues, industry insiders, and experts in hostile work environments. Part memoir, part journalism, Look What You Made Me Do is a searing deep dive into Big Law.
A battle cry against unchecked abuse of power and a woman’s misplaced shame, Look What You Made Me Do is an unflinching first-person account of a legal and human drama about the all-too-familiar story of gender discrimination and toxic power.

Important, Brave and Honest
Opinia napisana w Stanach Zjednoczonych dnia 27 lutego 2024
I just finished reading this book and wanted to say that it is such an insightful look into not only the "Big Law" experience but also, unfortunately, an all-too-common experience many women have had (and continue to have) in a multitude of professions, industries and careers. As a skilled journalist, Erin Gordon is able to provide a very personal and honest telling of her experience while also holding herself and the others involved to the highest journalistic standards. Her integrity and willingness to go back to a difficult time can only combine to serve as a reminder of how far we have come, how far we still need to go and how painful these experiences can be. This is an important read.

Eye Opening
Opinia napisana w Stanach Zjednoczonych dnia 1 marca 2024
This book is hard to put down. I read it in two days. I am not a lawyer but I have been harassed on the job, suffered trauma and heartbreak. I could relate in so many different ways. I highly recommend this worthwhile and insightful book.

Incredible exploration of the impact workforce trauma on the author's career and personal identity!
Opinia napisana w Stanach Zjednoczonych dnia 27 lutego 2024
In "Look What You Made Me Do," Author Erin Gordon candidly and openly explores of the impact of her early life and career trauma, through her current day lens of a mature adult. She revisits her workplace and relationship trauma through raw, honest reflection; written evidence and modern-day interviews with the "characters" involved. The book was both an engaging and captivating read, as well as an eye-opening reminder to be kind to not only others, but to yourself.

Thoughtful, heartbreaking read
Opinia napisana w Stanach Zjednoczonych dnia 1 kwietnia 2024
I had such an emotional response reading this book. As someone who came of age in the same era, the micro-aggressions and "boys club" environment was so familiar, although I worked in marketing, not law. Reading the book, I felt such compassion for 25-year-old Erin and it made me think of my own three daughters, who are now about that age. The fact that they face some of the same biases in the workplace today is why this is an important book. It's easy to condemn outright sexual assault, but the more subtle workplace bullying described in this book often goes under the radar and can have lasting scars.

Memoir Meets Investigative Journalism - and a writer lets herself be vulnerable
Opinia napisana w Stanach Zjednoczonych dnia 28 stycznia 2024
Erin Gordon answers the call to courage in her first person account of her time in Big Law in the early 90s. this is a must read for anyone who has been belittled, harassed, or made to feel less than in any work environment. It also tracks how getting thrown off of particular path really changes the trajectory of one's life. Even as other good things happen, one can't help but ask "what might have been."
Well written, Erin pulls no punches with herself and holds all involved to account. This book is worth your time and attention.
