Excellent boxset purchased during Black Friday reductions. Long delivery time from Amazon, item was sourced from Italy? Thankfully it arrived in perfect condition and was a bargain price. Amazon’s Prime delivery commitment has become extremely variable at their whim. They should remember their customers are paying for this service! 5 stars for quality of boxset not Amazon’s customer service.
Bel cofanetto contenente diversi film del grande Bogart in versione restaurata. L'audio è solo quello originale inglese, con sottotitoli (sempre in inglese) per tutti i film presenti.
Not his best films but great restorations (The Harder They Fall is the best film and the best restoration of the six) with some fantastic extras. Recommended for fans of Bogart or physical media collectors in general.
One reviewer claimed that these are some of Bogart's lesser-known films. They're not; they're just not in the same league as his 40s output - Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, so on. On the subject of "lesser-known," one film caught my attention, The Family Secret. I had never heard of it and no wonder: it's not even a Bogart movie so what it's doing in this box is anyone's guess. Hardly "Bogart at his deadliest" as the blurb shouts. It is, however, produced by Santana, Bogie's production company but it still doesn't count. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this yet. It's B movie filler, is all. The rest are only fairly average and is The Harder They Fall really noir? Not in my opinion but that's just what I think. What's not open to debate is that these are not entirely Bogart films, take 'em or leave 'em. The box and booklet are nice, though.
A wonderful quality boxset. I'm afraid that's all I can say positive about it. I love film noir and collect them. But although the film's are of a good standard. They are by no way his best or most entertaining. In actual fact they are fairly average. Worth seeing these films? Yes... But worth £50.... Probably not. I'm a massive Bogart fan. I have many of his films. But these are not the classics you want to return to over and over like African Queen or The Big Sleep...etc.
