Chiltern creates the most beautiful editions of the World's finest literature.

Your favourite classic titles in a way you have never seen them before; the tactile layers, fine details and beautiful colours of these remarkable covers make these titles feel extra special and will look striking on any shelf.

This book has a matching lined journal (sold separately). They make a great gift when paired together but are also just as beautiful on their own.

Dorian Gray is the subject of a full-length portrait in oil by Basil Hallward, an artist impressed and infatuated by Dorian's beauty; he believes that Dorian's beauty is responsible for the new mood in his art as a painter. Through Basil, Dorian meets Lord Henry Wotton, and he soon is enthralled by the aristocrat's hedonistic world view: that beauty and sensual fulfilment are the only things worth pursuing in life. Newly understanding that his beauty will fade, Dorian expresses the desire to sell his soul, to ensure that the picture, rather than he, will age and fade. The wish is granted, and Dorian pursues a libertine life of varied amoral experiences while staying young and beautiful; all the while, his portrait ages and records every sin.

5,0 z 5 gwiazdek Shipping IS/WAS mega disappointing! The BOOK is GORGEOUS!!!
Opinia napisana w Stanach Zjednoczonych dnia 4 marca 2024
This book is absolutely just gorgeous! I haven't read it yet, but KNOW it's going to be a keeper and a book I'll want to read again and pass down to my kids. This cover sealed the deal for me on this style of book! In hand there are no regrets! I will say it delivered in shocking (to me) way - it was loose with no protective cover, bag, poly, foam - nothing...just loose in a big amazon box!!! Just moving around in there, bouncing around in there is more like it. I can't imagine how much it was battered around before reaching me! Luckily there was only a the tiniest of white tears on the edge of the top corner. I'm disappointed about it, but am sure it would just get shipped the same way again, so...

Opinia napisana w Wielkiej Brytanii dnia 15 marca 2024
First thing you notice is it's weight: it's quite heavy compared to its relatively small size. This is because pages are thick and made of some plastic material. Pages are both see-through as many alternatives. The book feels good to touch and to look at.
As for the content - most people know what they buy. Oscar Wilde is a genius of his time: his books are always witty and timeless. This particular story is both interesting and instructive: a pretty person can have an ugly personality, in this case there is a portrait to show it. And as Dorian was hiding his portrait, hypocrites of this world hide their true-selfs.
