O autorze

Jack Hight is an American historian specializing in the mediaeval era. His fascination with the fall of Constantinople dates from his undergraduate years at Harvard. Jack holds an MA in History from the University of Chicago. He lives in Washington where he is completing his doctorate.

Read this book in 2011, it was my first experience with this great new author, this author has an amazing writing style and so this book is in my opinion a splendid retelling of the Siege of Constantinople.

The historical details concerning this period of history has been wonderfully implemented within this wonderful story by the author.

Set in AD 1453, it tells the tale of the Siege of Constantinople and the subsequent result of this famous Siege.

It a battle between the remnants of the Roman Empire at Constantinople and the oncoming forces of the Turks.

What is to follow is a wonderful historical tale about the battle for and Siege of Constantinople, in which the author describes the circumstances and actions in a most brillant fashion, so much so that the reader will be enthralled from start to finish with this marvellous tale of conquering and defence, heroics and treachery.

Highly recommended, for this is a magnificent standalone book in which the battle for Constantinople is told in a most wonderful way, and that's why I like to call this book: "A Superb Siege"!

A good historical novel with insight into life in a time gone by. The characters are all interesting from their own viewpoint and the story weaves a tale of deceit, greed and heroism. The story keeps you going
to find out the next scheme and counter plot until the
end.Definely a good read if you like type of novel

Well-written with an engaging style and rapid pace, this is a fantastic first novel. Some may prefer dry recitations of historical facts, but this is first and foremost an exciting story that uses historical events as its backdrop. Highly recommended.

Strong characters and a great story interwoven in history make this a compelling novel. The Crusades like you have never experienced it before. I highly recommend this one.

Hight knows how to bring the facts to a close victory which could have been a defeat was well. Especially a victory and defeat within the strong characters he describes in a convincing way.
