O autorze

Charlotte Brontë was born in Yorkshire in 1816. She was the third of six children, two years older than Emily, and four years older than Anne. After schooling she worked as a governess, and then taught in Brussels. In 1846 she returned to England and published poems by her and her younger sisters, under the pseudonyms, Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell. In 1847 she completed Jane Eyre, which was published to considerable acclaim. Both her younger sisters also wrote novels. Emily wrote Wuthering Heights, and Anne penned Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Charlotte married in 1854 and died in 1855.

Pero a pesar de eso, es súper bonita la edición con las páginas doradas, aunque si pasas el dedo muchas veces se te queda con purpurina.

El nivel de inglés que se necesita es uno intermedio tirando a avanzado debido a las estructuras de oraciones que tiene así como el vocabulario antiguo/ formal.

 Es una libro muy pequeño, casi del tamaño de mi mano, la he comparado con otra edición de Jane Eyre y esta es mucho más hermosa pero pequeña. El libro es de pasta dura, los bordes de las hojas son dorados, trae su propio separador, y al quitarle la cubre portada es aún más bonito, se siente como si la portada fuera de tela. La letra está bien para el tamaño del libro, me llego en una caja guante protegido con bolsas de aire, sin embargo no llego cubierto de ningún plástico por lo que la cubre portada llego un poco maltratada. Jane Eyre es mi libro favorito, se lo recomiendo a cualquiera que desee leerlo.

This review will not be based on the novel itself, which is a fantastic story and well-known classic.
I will just focus on this edition in particular, as well as on Amazon's Prime service. Very disappointed.

OK, so firstly I'd like to thank Amazon for helping me make up my mind not to pay for a Prime subscription. I'll explain myself.
I got a 1-month trial subscription. My first order was split into 3 separate deliveries despite all the items being sent by Amazon (an absolute pain). My second order was this book along with two others from the same collection. Again, the second order was split into 2 deliveries despite the fact that the 3 books were from Macmillan collector's and all sent by Amazon. The first delivery (not this book) was supposed to take place the following day. My country's public postal service (I'm Spanish) indeed tried to deliver it on Monday morning when, as is to be expected in many households, nobody was home. As a result, they didn't try to deliver it a second time but notified me via SMS that I had to go pick it up at the post office. So after work on Tuesday afternoon I had to rush to the other side of town before the office closed. That's a great Prime service! You pay so that your orders get an express delivery and instead end up being forced to go to the post office only after one attempted delivery on a weekday morning. It makes no sense at all.

This book, together with another one, were delivered by a courier service that Tuesday. Anyway the too books were packed snugly so the dust jackets were almost flawless.

Now, about Macmillan's edition.
The book looks gorgeous but, first of all, it's ridiculously tiny. It's much smaller than any regular pocket book I've ever seen. For instance, my Collin's Classics are 17 cm tall; Penguin's small paperbacks are slightly bigger (around 18 cm I guess). Macmillan collector's are clearly smaller, probably around 14-15 cm. The palm of my hand is literally bigger than them. Besides, the dust jacket is slightly too big; it doesn't stay in place and I had to remove it while reading the book because it was getting crumpled.

Moreover, the pages are bound a little too hard so you will need to push them down with both hands all the time while reading. All this together with the tiny font makes reading this book an ordeal.

Bottom line: if you want a nice-looking book to keep on your shelf, go for it. The gilded edges are absolutely gorgeous, and so is the hardcover design underneath the jacket. But these books aren't convenient at all if all you want is a good read.

Jane Eyre has been a favorite story of mines and I've re-read over and over. However, I was looking for a smaller copy to travel with. I was happy to have found such a size. The book cover is nicely designed and the pages are gold on the edge. I also like the sky blue coloring that was used. Look forward to having this book accompany me on my travels or weekend at home doing nothing but reading. I included a ruler for measurements as a visual.
