A celebration of Christmas, a tale of redemption and a critique on Victorian society, Dickens' atmospheric novella follows the miserly, penny-pinching Ebenezer Scrooge who views Christmas as 'humbug'. It is only through a series of eerie, life-changing visits from the ghost of his deceased business partner Marley and the spirits of Christmas past, present and future that he begins to see the error of his ways. With heart-rending characters, rich imagery and evocative language, the message of A Christmas Carol remains as significant today as when it was first published.

I’ve read A Christmas carol many times but didn’t own my own copy. I saw this little hardback book and thought it would be lovely to have. I’m really pleased with it. The quality is excellent. The cover is nicely Illustrated and there are several other illustrations inside. The illustrations are befitting of the time and very apt. The pages are gold edged and there’s a ribbon page marker. It feels really nice in the hand and of course the story is legendary. It is nice to be able to read the original story and it’s one I’m sure I will go back to every Christmas time. This was excellent value for money and if you are buying it with your children in mind it’s certainly a story suitable for ages 8 upwards. I’m sure they would understand the slightly unusual use of language. A nice book to keep and a valuable lesson for all.

The book itself has quite thick and gold-edged pages. It is illustrated with the style of victorian art, and underneath the paper cover the book has a nice pastel sky blue pressed cover. There is a little bookmark that is quite dandy.
This a classic that I needed for one of my classes, but still a view changing novella by the talented Charles Dickens. The audience gets to experience the change that an unchangeable man goes through, in order to become more accepting and generous.
